My name is Julie Higgs and I love the water, specifically spearfishing! I’ve worked for the fire department as a paramedic firefighter for over 10 years. Luckily for me I have a job that I love that gives me lots of flexibility to run off and do some amazing adventures!
My love of the water came from my father who has always had a passion and love for the water. He has shared his passion with my sister and I since we were in diapers. At the age of 5 my father would strap me to his belly and we would scuba dive together.
I really enjoy traveling because of the change in culture and the challenge of hunting a new species in different areas. In addition to my passion for traveling I also compete in spearfishing tournaments that range from small local tournaments to World level tournaments. I came across competitive spearfishing tournaments later in life and have competed in over 20 tournaments in the last 4 years. I was the Women's individual National Champion 2 years in a row, 2021 & 2022, which landed me the #1 diver spot on the 2023 USA Women's World Spearfishing Team. In addition to my tournament success, I also hold 7 spearfishing world records.
